Project description :

The Senatorial Service for urban development has launched the Berlin Solar campaign in July 2000, one the one hand to accustom the population of Berlin with solar energy and on the other hand to increase investments in this domain.

The objective fixed was to allow for at least 4% of Berlin population who owned their apartments to cover part of their eds in energy and water by using solar energy before 2003. In 1998, 300 photovoltaic devices existed in Berlin as well as 2500 solar thermal devices. In august 2001, Berlin counted more than 3200 solar devices (2700 solar thermal devices and 550 photovoltaic devices).

During the second semester of 2000, professional PR work has been effectuated (10 press releases) and has allowed for the diffusion of the subject matter in the media, which has immediately led to demands for counsel to the Solar Service centre and the Services of the Senate responsible for urban development.

Implementation date : July 2000

Funding : The Senate, the association of companies for solar energy (UVS), the German Society for Solar energy (DGS), the association for the protection of nature and the environment (BUND) and the association of energy consumers (BdE)

Cost : the senate has contributed over a quarter million of Euro, the other partners have each contributed 218 000 Euro.
